Rumor Mongering: Bruno Fernandes’ Agent Meeting With Tottenham and Manchester United

According to sources in Portugal, the Sporting Lisbon midfielder’s agent is in London, and a meeting with Liverpool is not on the agenda.
Although it seems increasingly likely that Liverpool will secure their first signing of the summer with the medical of 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg reportedly scheduled for today, Liverpool fans are still anxious to find out who our first Big Name Signing™ will be.
Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been linked to Liverpool off and on through the last several windows. With the Portuguese club wanting a reported £70 million for the 24-year-old, that would certainly qualify as a Big Name Signing.
However, if reports from Portuguese source O Jogo are to be believed, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur appear to have shown more interest in Fernandes. In fact, they report that Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, is planning on meeting with representatives of the two clubs in London.
Despite Liverpool having a London office, a meeting with the reigning European Champions is apparently not on the agenda for Pinho.
If true, this probably says more about Liverpool’s level of interest in Fernandes than Fernandes’s interest in playing for Liverpool. Right now Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is just a bigger draw than Tottenham, and certainly more so than sixth place Europa League bound United. Sorry, Bruno, but your numbers just ain’t cutting it on Michael Edwards’ laptop.
This does not mean Liverpool are not interested in Fernandes. We have seen how tight-lipped Liverpool have become about recent transfers, and this could again be the case. Alternatively, this could just be a rumor made from whole cloth. Such is the fog of war, or in this case, the fog of transfer season. Regardless, we’ll keep you posted.
