Sheyi Ojo reveals why he chose to join Rangers

Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo has revealed that the prospect of working under Steven Gerrard was his primary motivation for joining Rangers on loan this season, according to the Evening Standard.

The 21-year-old spent a disappointing spell on loan at French side Reims last season, following stints at Wigan, Wolves and Fulham.

And with fellow Red Ryan Kent (who won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award last season) as inspiration, Ojo is prepared to push on in his development under Gerrard.

“The last two years I’ve not really had that consistent opportunity to play football,” said Ojo.

“When I heard Rangers were involved, I spoke to my representation, the gaffer Steven Gerrard and Liverpool as well and came to believe this was the right destination for me this season.

“When I’m playing consistently and injury-free then everything goes well. I just haven’t had that consistency.

“With Rangers this season my aim is just to play how I’ve always played – freely and enjoy my football.”
