Liverpool conclude a thus far lackluster preseason in Geneva against Ligue 1 side Lyon. Like Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, Lyon are possible Champions League opponents coming into the season; so win, lose, or draw, the quality of the opponent should help prepare Jurgen Klopp’s charges for the long road ahead. Although, I think we’d all feel better about things if the Reds were to put together a solid performance and a win.

Thankfully, the Reds will be able to call on some key returning members to the squad. Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita, and Xherdan Shaqiri are all looking to get some minutes in their legs (or hands). Even without a full preseason under their belts, Bobby and Mo should add quite a bit of firepower to the sputtering attack. And of course Alisson is Alisson and noteably not Simon Mignolet.

Preseason is of course meaningless, and not at all reflective of the season to come. But we’d all feel better about our showdown against Manchester City if the Reds could put a few past Lyon, and look a bit like the side that lifted number 6 not so long ago.
