Liverpool’s captain was critical of himself, but happy with the team

Liverpool’s hot start to the season continued with their most comprehensive performance of the season against Arsenal. After captaining the side for the 100th time, Jordan Henderson was understandably chuffed with the result over an side many expect to challenge for the top 4.

“Another three points against a good side, a good performance – so, overall, delighted with the game” said Henderson. “We’ve got to be delighted with the three points, it’s tough in the Premier League.”

While the captain was happy with taking three points, he still felt there was room for improvement, both from himself and from the team overall.

“If we want to be really critical, we’re disappointed with the goal – I should have cleared it on the edge of the box” said the captain. “It was sloppy from me, I should just clear the ball.”

While he was unhappy to give up a late goal, he recognized the team effort overall was fantastic.

“That’s us being really critical of ourselves. I’m delighted with the team performance, I thought everyone was brilliant and deservedly got the three points.”

The Red’s number 14 took a moment to praise Mohamed Salah’s fantastic second goal of the game.

“[It was a] brilliant goal on the run, inside and the left-foot whip that we’ve seen so many times” the captain said of the Egyptian striker.

Jordan Brian Henderson, ever the captain, managed to keep things in perspective.

“All three goals were really good. Now we need to recover well, train hard this week and prepare for a tough game against Burnley.”
