Liverpool Travel to Face MK Dons in Third Round of League Cup

On paper it’s a draw that should allow Jürgen Klopp to rest and rotate his key stars.
With the second round of the Carabao League Cup in the books, Liverpool and the other Premier League sides competing in Europe enter the competition for round three, and with draw this evening the Reds learned they will face MK Dons.
MK Dons are currently 15th in the 23-team League One, with six points after four games. Liverpool drew as the away side for the match and so will travel to Stadium MK in Milton Keynes for the match, set for the week of September 23rd.
While it’s not like Liverpool or Jürgen Klopp to take any competition lightly, with both the club and manager wanting to win any and every game they can, the reality is that this is a competition rather down the pecking order for most fans.
With the league the priority and another season in the Champions League on offer—with the draw for that coming tomorrow—as well as the FA Cup and Club World Cup to come, the League Cup likely ranks last of the remaining competitions for most.
And, on paper at least, this draw shoud give the manager a chance to play fringe first team players and at least a couple of the kids. Meanwhile, title rivals Manchester City also got an easy draw on paper and will travel to face Preston North End.
