Rumour Mongering: Rangers Still Hopeful of Securing Ryan Kent Deal

As the summer drags on with Kent still on the books at Liverpool, the Scottish side remain hopeful.

It’s been a bit of an odd summer for Liverpool and Ryan Kent, with the 22-year-old winger returning to the Reds following a successful loan spell with Rangers and the club setting a very reasonable £7M valuation but, so far at least, unable to find him a permanent home.

Now, with the window closed already for sides in the Premier League and Championship, there options for doing so appear slim—and all the while, Rangers appear poised. Waiting and hoping that they’ll be somehow able to bring Kent north for another year on loan.

Or at least that’s the story today according to Sky and others who cover Scottish football, with the claim being that with less than a week left in the window in most of the rest of Europe, there’s a growing belief that Kent will end up back at Rangers on loan in the end.

There’s mention of interest in the player in France and Belgium from unnamed clubs, and if that interest is real—and if the interest is to sign Kent permanently—that would clearly be the preference of Liverpool, who have made no secret that they don’t want another loan.

However, if no permanent move can be secured, the simple truth of the matter is that there appears to be no room for Kent in the first team picture with Liverpool this season—not when players like Xherdan Shaqiri and Rhian Brewster can’t find a way out onto the pitch.

With that in mind, if the choice is between another season playing in Scotland or sitting in the reserves, it seems clear which option would be better—for Kent and Liverpool both. Which, when you get down to it, is probably why Rangers are feeling hopeful right now.
