Think what you want of the Community Shield, but it’s our first shot at silverware this season and that shouldn’t be discounted. Especially against a team like Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who have been a thorn in our sides for a while. So long as we can keep them from adding to their cabinets, we can have a nice shiny silver shield to put next to all of our others - especially since the last one we won was in 2006 and that’s a long time ago. It’s the perfect precursor to the rest of the season — if we win, we have a good push going into the season and if we lose, we have a chip on our shoulder. Nothing can go wrong! (Knock on wood).
