The Reds’ star forward took to the official site to talk about his tremendous strike against Southampton.

Sadio Mane is on one heck of a hot streak. If he were a gambling man, we’d definitely consider advising him to take a trip to the casino. Everything the man touches, at moment, turns to goals.

This past week has been a prime distillation of that hot streak: 2 starts, 3 goals, 1 assist. And on Saturday, Sadio notched one of those goals in early goal of the season fashion by lashing a laser past Southampton’s Angus Gunn to open his Premier League account.

Liverpool’s star forward has obviously been on incandescent form, but the quality of that strike was rather incredible. As such, Sadio took to the official site to talk about what he saw up to and leading to that thunder strike.

“I thought it was really open between two defenders. So when I saw Millie I knew he was going to give me the ball, then I saw the man, no-one was close to me, they stood off and I tried to go a bit outside and put the ball inside.”

Well, when you put it that way, Sadio.

Joking - and classic understatement from a star professional - aside, it really did seem to develop out of nothing. Milner feeds the ball to Sadio who takes a touch on to his preferred foot before unleashing his devastating strike. So, it’s not exactly false humility from Sadio to talk about it in such a detached or elementary fashion.

More, it did have not only a sense of instinctive - the match commentators indicated that it looked like Mané was looking to shoot the whole time. But also that it had an air of the inevitable to it.

And that last bit circles us all the way back to the top. It seemed inevitable and routine even if nothing about it really was, simply because it came off of that blessed foot attached to Sadio Mané. A man in form and a man who seemingly can’t be stopped.
