Unai Emery makes Liverpool admission ahead of showdown

Unai Emery.

Unai Emery has admitted that Arsenal never want to play against Liverpool but that it’s a good test for the Gunners to face the Reds.

The last time the two Premier League sides met, Liverpool thrashed Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield as Roberto Firmino scored his first hattrick for the club.

The North London outfit will be desperate to prevent suffering a similar fate after their fine start to the 2019/20 campaign.

Roberto Firmino

Emery joked with the press ahead of the showdown, saying: “For us, we don’t ever want to play against Liverpool – but it’s really a challenge, a good test.

“Really our target is to reduce the distance (between us) and Manchester City and Liverpool last season, and when we go to play against them it’s a big moment to show how (much stronger) we can be.

“We are going there (to Anfield) with six points from two games. Next week is a very good match for every supporter of Arsenal.”

David Luiz

Having signed Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz and Kieran Tierney, Emery’s side looks a lot stronger than it did at the end of last season but Jurgen Klopp’s side will still fancy their chances.

The Reds beat Chelsea in Istanbul last week, overcoming the Blues on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup before they beat Southampton 2-1 away from home at the weekend.

Sadio Mane looks to be Liverpool’s man in form after he scored three goals this week and will likely be their talisman for the next few weeks.
