Fabinho discusses his recent fine form.

Fabinho may have taken some time to adjust to Klopp’s preferred playing style, but once he was integrated into the team last season, it was full steam ahead. The Brazilian proved himself to be a capable, canny, creative number six, and he soon became a mainstay in the starting XI.

If the first handful of games this season have proven anything, it’s that Fabinho wasn’t a one season wonder. His early performances have wowed fans and pundits alike, who are calling him the league’s best defensive midfielder.

When faced with this praise, Fabinho is quick to make it about the whole team.

“I think that’s related to the team, this excellent moment the team is having,” he tells the official site.

“This team really helps for the individual qualities of the players to stand out. I am very flattered by the praise, but I hope to continue showing even more. I play for Liverpool, I want to be important to this team and I want to continue with this momentum.”

Regarding the road it took to last season, training and honing his skills until they reached Klopp’s exacting standards, Fabinho says, “Definitely I am different. Liverpool has brought me up to the highest level of my career. I can win titles with Liverpool that I have always dreamed of.

“We are a winning team and a great team to play for with the players and coaching team we have. Everything around Liverpool, the competition for places, is really good and pushes us on to be even better. Bringing all of that together has made me a better player, definitely.”

The team experienced its first setback on Tuesday when they lost their first Champions League group stage match against Napoli. But they have the chance to get back on the right track on Sunday down in London against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
