John Achterberg discusses Alisson recovery and fitness levels

Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has told Liverpool’s official website that Alisson’s recovery from a calf injury is progressing well.
The Brazilian suffered a calf injury against Norwich City in the first game of the Premier League season but is slowly nearing a return to fitness which will come as a huge boost to their chances of maintaining their early season form.
“Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up,” Achterberg said.
“In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills.
“He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress. It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.”
Adrian has done well enough in goal for Liverpool but it’s clear to see that the former West Ham United shotstopper isn’t on the same level as Alisson despite his UEFA Super Cup heroics.
What Alisson can offer Liverpool that Adrian cannot is world-class distribution and a cool head at the back and this allows the Reds to play their measured, possession-based football that took Europe by storm last season.
