Jordan Henderson Soothes Injury Worries After Burnley

Despite getting taken off after a tackle from Burnley, Hendo says not to worry. It’s me, I was worried.

It was another impressive and clinical win for Liverpoool on Saturday at Burnley’s Turf Moor Stadium, as the Reds easily dispatched a bogey team in a bogey place. Thankfully it’s out of the way early this season, and ahead of the international break to boot. Captain Jordan Henderson had yet another influential performance in midfield until a tackle from Aaron Lennon forced him off with what looked like a potential hamstring injury. Nothing to worry about, though, says the skipper.

“I was all right. I was fine, I don’t know, maybe the gaffer thought I was hobbling about a bit. But no, it’s fine,” Henderson said to the club website following the match.

I mean, the grimace on his face after the tackle said otherwise and the fact that he pulled up shortly after charging for another Burnley wasn’t exactly going to instill confidence in anyone. The Captain moved forward, speaking warmly about the match and the things the Reds got right.

“I thought we did the dirty bits really well,” Henderson continued.

“We worked extremely hard defensively to win second balls, which is important against Burnley. The two strikers [Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes] are really physical.

“I thought we coped with them really well. Going forward we looked good at times and scored some brilliant goals. It was a really good performance.”

Burnley was never going to be easy, and even as the Reds have grown in skill and confidence under Jurgen Klopp, they’ve still proven to be a bit kryptonite-y for us. The didn’t stop them form going at the match with that confidence and comfort we’ve seen all season and it’s helped them continue their record-breaking runs. Henderson, of course ever so humble, says it’s not about the records. At least, not for anyone else but themselves.

“We’re not setting them [records] for anyone else, we’re setting them for ourselves. That’s what we want to do,” said the captain.

“We want to win every week, we want to perform every week and that’s difficult because there are so many good sides in the Premier League and in Europe. It’s really hard.

“Again, for us it’s game by game. We come up against different tests each week and it’s about giving everything every time we go onto the football pitch and we will see where we are at the end of the season.

“For me it’s just about concentrating on what we need to do. We have been very mature in our performances, especially away from home.

“We want to continue that form, keep doing the right things, keep working hard as a team. If we do that, we can put on performances like that.”

As Liverpool enter the international break with 12 points from 4 games, and at the top of the table, they can go into their lighter periods with a little more comfort. Now Henderson just has to stay fit through England time.
