Rangers and Liverpool Reportedly Nearing Permanent Ryan Kent Transfer Deal

The player is eager for the move and a fee of around £6-7M is said to have been agreed in principle.

With Ryan Kent’s Leeds move falling apart and the transfer window closing for Premier League and Championship sides earlier in the month, most expected the 22-year-old attacker to end up back with Rangers when everything was said and done.

What they didn’t expect was for Kent to make the move back to Scotland on a permanent deal—and for Rangers to be willing or able to pay Liverpool’s rumoured £7M asking price. Today, though, that appears to be what we’re about to see take place.

That’s the story at least according to Paul Joyce and others with ties to the clubs, with the two sides reportedly having agreed a transfer fee of around £6-7M. When all the terms of the deal are finalized, the focus will turn to personal terms and a medical.

Given how long Kent has been linked with Rangers and his desire to return to them, one images that side of things won’t take very long. Still, it’s a surprise—especially after earlier stories suggesting Kent might end up at Club Brugge instead.

It’s also a surprise when, as recently as yesterday and after securing their place in the Europa League group stages—and with it earning around £10M extra for their efforts—Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was playing down the idea of Kent arriving.

“Nothing has changed on the Ryan Kent situation,” were Gerrard’s words just last night. “We’d love to have him but Liverpool’s stance hasn’t changed, so we move on, but knows what we think of Ryan and how much we’d love to have him here.”

It looks now as though something must indeed have changed—though if the fee reports are correct, that something was on Rangers’ end and not Liverpool’s.
