Gareth Southgate's Joe Gomez snub good news for Liverpool

Joe Gomez.

Gareth Southgate not selecting Joe Gomez to play for the England first team is good news for Liverpool even if it’s disappointing for the player himself.

The Liverpool defender didn’t feature for a single minute against the Czech Republic and had to watch from the bench as his team lost 2-1 which will be majorly frustrating.

At Anfield, the 22-year-old is currently being forced to watch as Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren get selected to play ahead of him and to see Harry Maguire and Michael Keane start for England will be hard to take.

For Liverpool, however, it’s good news.

Gomez has suffered a couple of serious injuries since joining Liverpool and the last thing the Reds need is for him to pick up a knock while on international duty so the fewer games he plays for England the better.

He might not be a starter for Liverpool at the moment but he is still a hugely gifted player and losing him to injury would be a major blow for Klopp and co.

England face Bulgaria this evening and if Gomez is snubbed once again, it will be difficult to find Liverpool fans that will be overly concerned as his fitness is far more important.
