Kai Havertz to cost at least £88million

Kai Havertz.

Mundo Deportivo, via the Daily Mail, reported last week that a minimum of £88 million will be required to sign Havertz and Liverpool fans have responded.

The German star scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga all the while playing from a midfield role which should have Liverpool’s transfer crew on high alert given the Reds’ lack of a world class playmaker.

The Daily Mail cites Mundo Deportivo as suggesting that Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in signing the 20-year-old and will be required to pay at least £88million.

Barca reportedly approached Bayer Leverkusen and were told to pay £70m but his price tag is set to go up with more and more clubs expressing an interest in the phenomenal midfielder.

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where Havertz would fit into Liverpool’s starting XI with Jurgen Klopp currently valuing balance and ball retention above all else when selecting his midfield trio.

Havertz is essentially a tall German version of Frank Lampard and wouldn’t offer much in the way of a conservative midfield option that would sit back and allow Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson to bomb forward.

He will be world-class in a few years but his price tag is going to turn a lot of clubs off and Liverpool might be included in that bracket.
