Matip fit but Mohamed Salah not picture at Melwood
Joel Matip has declared himself fit to face Manchester United while Mohamed Salah was not pictured at Melwood on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the Cameroonian said: “I’m back in training and hopefully I will stay fit. I’m back in training and I feel good. Of course, if I’m needed, I will be there.
“Injuries [happen] to a player. Now I’m back, I hope I stay fit and I can focus on the positives.”
It speaks volumes about Matip’s development over the last year that fans are delighted that he’s fit enough to return to the starting XI as he started last season as fourth-choice behind Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren.
While it might not be cause for concern given he trained on Wednesday on an individual bespoke training programme, Salah wasn’t pictured in Liverpool’s Melwood training gallery on Thursday.
The Guardian reported on Monday that Salah is expected to be fit to face United on Sunday and there are yet to be any claims to the contrary so it seems likely that his ankle injury won’t be an issue.
The Egyptian is undoubtedly a key player for the Reds and will be hoping to score his first goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.
