Liverpool court case over Nike kit deal starts today
Liverpool’s lawyers will today take to the High Court to fight for their right to sign a new kit deal with Nike.
The Reds current deal with New Balance includes a clause that states that if they match any deals offered by other kit manufacturers then they have the right to remain as Liverpool’s sponsor.
However, a large part of what Nike is offering is rather hard to quantify such as their marketability and the ability to offer much greater distribution. New Balance are reportedly arguing that such factors shouldn’t be considered by the judge.
If the judge agrees, New Balance will win the case and if not, the next argument that will be considered will be whether or not New Balance can match Nike’s marketing power and distribution.
Liverpool have expressed doubts over whether they can and suggest that ‘New Balance have not tabled a “bona fide” offer and have not been genuine.’
