Manchester United suffer David De Gea injury blow

David De Gea.

David De Gea hobbled off the pitch on Tuesday evening as Spain were held to a 1-1 draw by Sweden, making him a massive doubt to face Liverpool.

Kepa Arrizabalaga replaced De Gea during the Euro 2020 qualifier after he sustained a groin injury. He was able to walk off the pitch with minimal support from medical staff but it will be a concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nonetheless.

The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper is the only Manchester United player that is a serious threat to Liverpool ahead of this weekend’s crunch class at Old Trafford.

While he hasn’t been at his best for over a year now, De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet and United’s only world-class player so if he is unable to play on Sunday, it will be a relief for Liverpool’s attackers.

Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are more than capable of beating any goalkeeper but De Gea has turned in some truly unbelievable performances against the Reds in the past.

Liverpool have only won once at Old Trafford in the last three and a half years so it will do them the world of good to get a win at their greatest rival’s home ground.
