Mark Lawrenson concerned about Liverpool vs. Spurs
Mark Lawrenson is concerned that Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side could be a banana skin for Liverpool when they visit Anfield this weekend.
The Reds played poorly against Tottenham at home last season and were lucky that Toby Alderweireld scored an own goal at the death to gift Jurgen Klopp’s side a win.
Those three points meant so much as it kept Liverpool in the Premier League title race until the final day of the season but they need to win this weekend to keep Manchester City at bay.
The Citizens are six points behind Liverpool but they visit Anfield in just 16 days’ time.
While predicting the match to end in a 1-1 draw, Lawrenson wrote on BBC Sport: “Their last visit here, when Tottenham only lost to a late Toby Alderweireld own-goal, was an example of that. Spurs had been the better team in the second half.
“Nobody is expecting that to be the case this time, after the way Tottenham have played in the past few weeks, but I still think they have got it in them to spring a shock.
“At the same time, I am a little bit worried that if Liverpool are below their best again, like they were against Manchester United when they did not quite get the different areas of their team right, then they might slip up.”
