Mohamed Salah Fit but Unlikely to Face Arsenal in League Cup

Salah trained with his teammates today but a fully changed side is expected in the Carabao Cup.

When Mohamed Salah limped off late in Sunday’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur, fans were concerned the star attacker may have re-injured the ankle that was damaged against Leicester City three weeks earlier.

After the match, though, Jürgen Klopp downplayed any longer term concerns, saying Salah’s ankle was still tender from Hamza Choudhury’s late, studs-up tackle but that it wasn’t a case of him re-injuring it on Sunday.

That claim appears to have been backed up today, with Salah taking part in training with the rest of the first team. As such, the Egyptian will be expected to start on the weekend against Aston Villa in Premier League action.

However, he won’t start on Wednesday against Arsenal in the League Cup—not that he was ever expected to, regardless of injury status. Instead, a fully changed side is expected, similar to the one that faced MK Dons in the last round.

A number of U23 regulars moved up to train with the first team today, including Harvey Elliott—who impressed massively against MK Dons—Sepp van den Berg, Curtis Jones, Herbie Kane, Neco Williams, and Pedro Chirivella.

Meanwhile, The Liverpool Echo claim that Naby Keïta, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Divock Origi were involved in more training sessions than some first team regulars—suggesting all could start.
