Rio Ferdinand provides his opinion on Rashford goal

Marcus Rashford.

Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport on Tuesday evening that he believes Marcus Rashford’s goal against Liverpool should have been disallowed.

“It’s a bit up and down, to be honest. There is a lot of confusion with the decisions,” he told BT Sport.

“Origi, that situation was definitely a foul. I think it’s a bad touch but it’s definitely a foul.

“One thing that surprises me, in the Premier League 90 games have been played and not one ref has looked at the screen in the stadium. I don’t understand, if a referee in the stadium looked at the decision, it gets taken back.”

VAR in the Premier League must consider making wholesale changes because until now, the new technology has been entirely misused and is doing far more harm than good.

When it was first announced that it would be used in the Premier League, fans were excited but so many massive and obvious calls have been ignored and so far, only offsides and handballs have really been judged correctly.

And as Ferdinand said, not a single referee has used the pitchside monitor that is made available at every Premier League game and that has to change otherwise officials will continue to miss important calls.
