Adam Lallana highlights what Liverpool need to continue doing in bid for title

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana believes that the Reds simply can’t take their foot off the gas going into the New Year.

Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at Anfield yesterday thanks to a first-half strike from Sadio Mane.

The Reds are currently 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand.

With that being the case, their is plenty of talk in regards to Liverpool claiming a maiden Premier League title in 2020.

However, Lallana has stated that Liverpool need to keep their foot on the gas if they wish to win the title this season.

He also added that the squad players will be needed to claim the trophy come the end of the season.

Lallana told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s a squad game and I’ve said before that we’re going to need everybody.

“We’ve got a few injuries at the time being and three or four kids on the bench, it’s a great experience for them being involved and so close to what’s been a special season so far.

“We can’t take our foot off the gas. We’ve got a couple of huge games at home in the next week – Sheffield United, who have had a fantastic season, and then the derby in the cup. A couple of big games that we can see in the next week.

“It’s important we recover because we’ve had a few injuries and it’s important that we get everybody back fit as quickly as possible.

“We want to maintain that form going into the New Year and keep Anfield a fortress.”

Lallana is spot on in regards to what the Reds need to do if they wish to claim the title. There is so much football left in the season, which ultimately means any talk regarding the title is premature.

He is also correct in terms of the squad players being needed. Liverpool play a vast amount of games between now and the end of the season.

Despite all this, Liverpool are clearly the favourites. Their next assignment in the Premier League is Sheffield United at Anfield.
