Gary Lineker gives verdict on whether Leicester City can beat Liverpool to title

Former Leicester City forward Gary Lineker believes his team could win the Premier League title if they weren’t up against such a solid Liverpool team.

Leicester City, the side that currently sits second in the Premier League, defeated Aston Villa yesterday 4-1 at Villa Park to reduce the gap at the top of the table back to eight points.

Many expected Manchester City to be the side that could keep the pace with Liverpool, but as of right now, the Foxes are showing everyone how it is done.

Liverpool have only dropped points in one Premier League game this season, which was a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford back in October. This statistic itself highlights the ruthless nature of this Liverpool side.

Lineker believes if this Leicester City team weren’t up against Jurgen Klopp’s side, then the Foxes arguably would be favourites to win the title.

Lineker tweeted: “If Liverpool weren’t so relentlessly good, I’d fancy that this Leicester team could actually win this league. What a time to be alive.”

The title race is far from over, but Lineker may have a point. Leicester City may find themselves in a similar position to what Liverpool were in last season.

The Reds put together a superb 2018-19 Premier League campaign, but the club still lost the title to Manchester City. This could happen to the Foxes.

Liverpool’s next Premier League task is against Watford next weekend at Anfield. Leicester City host Norwich City.
