Salzburg forward Takumi Minamino is set to join Liverpool in January, according to Melissa Reddy of The Independent.

According to the report, the Reds have agreed to pay the £7.25 million release clause in Minamino’s contract.

Liverpool had to act quickly in order fight off interest from Manchester United and several Bundesliga teams.

Jurgen Klopp has had the opportunity to watch Minamino twice this season, as the Reds played Salzburg in the Champions League.

Considering that he is available for just £7.25 million, it makes sense that Liverpool are set to sign him. He is also only 24 years of age, which means he has plenty of football ahead of him.

He gives the Reds depth in attack, and considering how taxing the second half of the season will be, it makes sense for Liverpool to bring in reinforcement.

Many Liverpool fans took to Twitter after Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against the Austrian side praising Minamino. This is a signing that many of the supporters would agree with.
