Gini Wijnaldum provides update on Liverpool future

Reds midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has stated that he is purely focused on playing football rather than worrying about his Liverpool future.

The Dutchman, who signed for Liverpool from Newcastle United for a fee of £25 million back in the summer of 2016, has stated that he is in no rush to sign a new deal with the Anfield club.

Liverpool do risk losing Wijnaldum on a free transfer come the summer of 2021, but for the time being, the midfielder is purely focused on playing football for the Reds.

Wijnaldum told Sky Sports: “I’m just focusing on bringing this season to a good end and that’s the only thing I’m thinking of.

“What would I like? It is difficult to say. It depends on what the club wants and how the situation is at that time. We will see.”

He also added when asked if it would be difficult leaving Liverpool: “Yes, it’s like home.”

Wijnaldum is currently 29 years old, which means he is in the prime of his career. I still believe he has plenty to offer despite the fact he is not getting any younger.

One could argue that he is Liverpool’s most consistent midfielder. He is a very important cog in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Hopefully a new deal is struck at some point, as he is a very good footballer. However, it is slightly concerning that he has not signed a new deal as of yet.
