Jamie Carragher makes selection plea ahead of FA Cup derby

Reds legend Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to forget the rivalry and field a weakened team against Everton at Anfield today.

The Reds face the Toffees in the FA Cup. The competition itself is certainly not high on Klopp’s agenda, which may mean we see a weakened team fielded, regardless of the opposition.

Carragher wants this to be the case, as he believes Liverpool’s regulars need to focus purely on the Premier League.

“No! The PL is too important & Klopp has 12 fit seniors players who have all played almost 100% of the games over a busy Xmas,” Carragher tweeted when asked about the team he would select to face Everton.

It is difficult to disagree with Carragher. As Klopp currently only has 12 fit senior players to choose from, there is absolutely no point risking these individuals in a game which means very little in comparison to the upcoming matches.

Sure, it is always nice to beat Everton. But, claiming the Premier League trophy is far more important. Liverpool have not won a domestic title in 30 years.

It also gives the youngsters a taste of the Merseyside derby. If they lose, then so be it. The pressure is definitely on the Toffees heading into this clash.
