Jurgen Klopp provides injury updates on key players

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has provided injury updates on key players.

Klopp currently only has 12 senior players available for selection due to the injuries that have hit his squad.

The likes of Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho are currently on the injury list.

The player which many thought would be missed the most was Fabinho, who hasn’t featured for the Reds since their victory over Napoli in the Champions League back in November.

The likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner have been able to cover Fabinho’s position well, meaning Liverpool have not missed him to the extent many first thought they would.

However, there is no denying he has still been a miss in terms of squad depth. The good news is he is making a recovery from his ankle injury and should be back out on the pitch relatively soon.

Klopp told the media yesterday ahead of today’s FA Cup clash against Everton: “[Keita] will have a scan today. Shaqiri will not be available tomorrow. Oxlade looks good, Dejan Lovren looks good.

“Fabinho is out on the pitch doing running stuff.

“Our only problem is the games come so quick Most of them will not be available tomorrow night. We will see the next game what is possible.”

It is good to hear some key players are making progress in terms of returning. Liverpool can’t enter January and beyond with only 12 senior players fit.

You need depth, especially when you are going for the Premier League title. The Reds possess a 13-point lead at the top of the table with one game in hand.
