Rumour Mongering: Bayer Leverkusen Expect Liverpool Bid for Kai Havertz

Bayern Munich and an unnamed club in Spain are said to be his other serious suitors.
Liverpool won’t be doing anything significant before the January transfer window slams shut on Friday. In fact, Liverpool fans could be forgiven for forgetting deadline day was approaching given their focus is on what’s happening out on the pitch.
Still, there are expectations for the coming summer, when Liverpool are widely expected to make a big signing or two—and have been since last summer’s transfer window ended with the club having kept their powder dry. To that end, here we are with Kai Havertz.
Havertz, the 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfield star and one of the game’s top youngsters, has been linked with the Reds before. But today, Sportbild’s chief football writer Christian Falk says they’re one of three places that Havertz could end up.
That’s because he says that Bayer are expecting a Liverpool bid for him when the summer draws near, with Bayern Munich and an unnamed Spanish club—presumably one of Madrid or Barcelona given both have been linked—the other two frontrunners.
For Liverpool, even given their current lofty standing in England and Europe, beating Bayern and the likes of Madrid or Barcelona to Havertz would be something of a coup—and an expensive coup, given Bayer are said to want around €130M for the youngster.
That’s a fee that might scare off Bayern given they aren’t known for paying such hefty prices, but it would also be a record fee for the Reds—and by some margin—which might make a move to Spain the most likely outcome for Havertz this summer.
