Sadio Mane reacts to winning Africa’s 2019 Player of the Year
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been awarded Africa’s 2019 Player of the Year after a stellar campaign.
Mane was superb for Liverpool in 2019, as he played a huge part in the club claiming the Champions League trophy. The Senegal international also claimed the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in the same year.
Individually, Mane shared the 2018-19 Premier League Golden Boot. Mane finished ahead of teammate Mohamed Salah and Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez to claim Africa’s 2019 Player of the Year.
In terms of his national duties, Mane played a role in guiding Senegal to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
It was votes from head coaches, technical directors and captains of the senior national teams from CAF’S member associations which saw Mane awarded as Africa’s best footballer in 2019.
“I am really happy and at the same time I am really proud to win this award,” said Mane at the ceremony.
“It’s a big day for me.”
Mane added: “I would love to thank all the Senegalese people. They have been for me all the time, they push me.”

It is nice to see Mane claiming this award. In many ways, he has gone under the radar at Liverpool. Salah has taken a lot of the credit for what Liverpool have achieved in recent years, but Mane has been just as good.
As for the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, Mane has scored 11 goals and made six assists in 19 games for Liverpool.
Mane’s form has been pivotal in regards to the 13-point lead Liverpool currently possess at the top of the Premier League table. The club also have a game in hand.
