David Moyes suggests that Liverpool were lucky against West Ham United

West Ham United manager David Moyes believes that Liverpool had luck against his side last night at Anfield.

Liverpool claimed a 3-2 win against the Hammers, which gives the Reds a 22-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Four more victories would ensure the club a maiden Premier League title.

Reds midfielder Gini Wijnaldum opened the scoring in the first-half, but Hammers defender Issa Diop equalised shortly after.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance with the ball, West Ham took the lead through midfielder Pablo Fornals early in the second-half.

However, that particular goal woke Liverpool up, as forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both scored shortly after to secure three more Premier League points for the Reds.

Moyes has suggested that Liverpool had luck in their comeback victory against his side, which he stated in a subtle way after the match.

“In the period where we were winning 2-1 I didn’t think we were desperately under pressure,” said Moyes, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“We had done a really good job.

“It’s really disappointing to come here and say that individual mistakes have cost us.

“Liverpool with the quality of players and what they’ve done this year, they have the ability to score goals everywhere and in different ways.”

Regarding West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, Moyes said: “He had a couple of really good saves, a couple of worldies when Liverpool hit some shots.

“To be honest I think he should stop the first one as well.

“When you come to Anfield you are always going to need your goalie to play well, no matter who you are.

“Lukasz has played really well for the club, but this can happen. For us to get where we need to go, we need to cut out individual mistakes.

“There was points there for us tonight and we didn’t take it. Even the third shot, it deflects off a player.

“Sometimes you can be a club where you have everything going for you and Liverpool were that. Liverpool were good at times tonight, but that third goal was really harsh on us.”

Liverpool dominated the match. The Hammers only registered four shots on goal, and two of them went in.

Moyes can suggest whatever he likes, but the reality is, only one team deserved to win that football match.
