Former England defender believes that Liverpool should “pay a price” for FA Cup actions
Former England defender Matthew Upson has stated that Liverpool should “pay a price” for their decisions leading into the FA Cup replay clash against Shrewsbury Town at Anfield.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and his senior players all took the night off to honour the inaugural Premier League winter break, which meant Reds under-23 manager Neil Critchley had the job of leading a very young Liverpool team against Shrewsbury.
The kids claimed a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury courtesy of a Ro-Shaun Williams own goal, which meant Klopp’s decision was vindicated.
However, despite this being the case, Upson told Sky Sports’ The Debate that Liverpool should “pay a price” for the decisions they made leading into the game.

Matthew Upson was asked by Geoff Shreeves (The Debate)
“Are you pleased that Liverpool went through?”
His reply:
“I think it would’ve been good to see them pay a price for it. I don’t think that would’ve been a bad thing for the FA Cup”

This is quite a bizarre statement from Upson. The Reds won the game and arguably dominated the match.
Klopp was confident that Critchley and the youngsters could do the job, and that is exactly what happened.
It is difficult for one to understand why Liverpool should “pay a price” for winning a football match.
