Neil Critchley explains Jurgen Klopp’s message to the youngsters before Shrewsbury clash
Liverpool under-23 manager Neil Critchley has stated that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp offered some words of encouragement to the youngsters before they took to the field against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup replay at Anfield.
Klopp and his senior players all took the night off to honour the inaugural Premier League winter break, which meant Critchley led a very young Liverpool team against Shrewsbury.
The kids claimed a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury courtesy of a Ro-Shaun Williams own goal, which meant Klopp’s decision was vindicated.
However, Klopp still had an influence on the game despite not being inside Anfield, as Critchley has revealed.
“He [Klopp] was in touch this afternoon with words of advice and encouragement,” Critchley said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“We also had a message from the staff at the end there that he’s absolutely delighted with the performance and buzzing.

“We’ve given him a game against Chelsea to look forward to.
“He gives us total clarity and belief.
“He told us to play the Liverpool way and go for it because that’s how the first team play.
“This is us, this is what we do, this is what we stand for, this is what we believe in and you better be ready for it.”
It is good to hear Klopp still had an interest in the game despite not being inside the stadium. The German manager has received a lot of criticism for the decisions he made leading into the clash against Shrewsbury.
However, he has been vindicated with the result. Liverpool face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the next round of the FA Cup.
