Pundit in awe of the FA Cup performance from Liverpool youngster against Shrewsbury

BBC pundit Rob Green was very impressed with Curtis Jones’ performance against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup replay at Anfield last night.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and his senior players all took the night off to honour the inaugural Premier League winter break, which meant Reds under-23 boss Neil Critchley led a very young Liverpool team against Shrewsbury.

Youngsters such as Jones got their chance, and they certainly took it, as they claimed a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury courtesy of a Ro-Shaun Williams own goal.

Jones was arguably Liverpool’s best player on the night, and he certainly caught the eye of Green.

“He’s done well tonight, hasn’t he?!” Green told BBC Radio 5 Live, as quoted by HITC.

“He has looked a threat all over the pitch. He has looked confident. He would try stuff that I wouldn’t dream of. And he has been an incredible influence over the game.”

When Jones has played in Liverpool’s first XI this season, he has been sensational. There is definitely a player within him.

All he can do is continue playing the way he is and eventually he will get his chance on a more consistent basis.

It was great to see a Scouser captaining the team as well. He certainly lived up to the armband, and going by what he said after the match, he enjoyed the experience.

“Special? Wow, I think that’s an understatement! It’s a dream come true,” said Jones when asked about becoming Liverpool’s youngest ever captain, as quoted by LiverpoolFC.com.

“As you can see Trent’s dream is to captain the team, my dream is to captain the team and the rest of the players as well because it’s an unbelievable club.

“It’s got an unbelievable history, it’s got unbelievable fans and it’s an amazing feeling just to be out there and playing, but to captain the team is just an extra bit special.”
