Round and round the news cycle we go.

Reports are swirling that the Timo Werner ship has sailed for Liverpool, and that they’ve fixed their eyes on another big name target.

There’s been nothing but Timo Werner and random Bundesliga players making up the bulk of the churning mill of Liverpool’s transfer gossip, so at least this one is a refreshing change of pace.

The Metro and other places have said that talks broke down between Liverpool and Timo Werner, due to RB Leipzig demanding the Reds pay Werner’s £50million release clause. and so they’ve begun to focus their attention on Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele instead.

The French winger has been injured since November, and it appears that Barcelona would be willing to take a loss from his sale, valuing him at only £40million.

It seems hard to imagine that Liverpool would give up chasing Werner for the difference of £10million after working so hard to see it through. It also seems unlikely that they would choose to deal with Barcelona over Leipzig, given recent history between the clubs.

It will be interesting to see where the wind blows on this one when the transfer window opens, but it feels like a leap.
