Diogo Jota Will Wear Number 20
The Reds’ latest signing will take on the number 20 shirt for his new club.
Liverpool’s newest signing has been unveiled, with Diogo Jota arriving from Wolves in a deal that could rise to £45M and sees Ki-Jana Hoever heading in the other direction in a complimentary deal that could see the Reds recoup as much as £13.5M.
On the surface those are big top line numbers, but Hoever heading in the other direction and a unique payment structure will help the Reds during a time of financial uncertainty—all while adding a very, very talented player who fits a clear need in the squad and has room to grow.
So you know the numbers, and with his official unveiling you now know his number, too. Number twenty. It’s not a heavily worn number in Liverpool’s history, and with a little hard work and maybe a bit of luck Jota has a chance to make it his own.
Most recently, it was worn by Adam Lallana and a decade ago it was the shirt of Javier Mascherano—probably the most notable wearer to date. Others who have worn it are Aly Cissokho, Anthony Le Tallec, Jay Spearing, Nick Barmby, Scott Carson, and Stig Inge Bjørnebye.
