Klopp Talk: Thiago Buildup Intensifies But Not Official Until Announced
Jurgen Klopp did not reveal much about Thiago’s possible arrival at Liverpool, but the signs look promising.
The build-up to Thiago Alcantara’s imminent unveiling as a Liverpool player intensified today, with various outlets speculating that the player would be on Merseyside for a routine medical on Friday morning.
In his press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp gave little away however, deflecting the many desperate questions that came his way.
“I am not the announcer, and it’s not official till it’s announced,” Klopp said, adding, “but it looks quite promising! Supporters should look at the LFC channels over the day, and we will see whatever happens when it happens.”
Klopp was also asked about incoming transfers affecting the status of players like Georginio Wijnaldum, who has one year left on his Liverpool contract. He responded that transfers would have “no impact on anybody’s future in a negative way.”
With the arrival of young German stars like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the Premier League, the status of the Bundesliga as a source of great talent was raised to Klopp, to which he expressed admiration for the German league.
“It’s a tough league,” Klopp said. “Germany is a football country, and they [the Bundesliga] have made some good decisions with talent scouting, training and building academies. I was a part of that process.“
Elsewhere, Thiago posted an emotional farewell to FC Bayern Munich via his Twitter account, paying tribute to the seven years he spent as a player there.

His tribute was acknowledged by long-term teammate and FC Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. Together they recently won the German Continental Treble for the 2019-2020 season (the UEFA Champions League, the Bundesliga, and DFB-Pokal).
