Liverpool Internationals: Neco Williams Talks Scoring the Winner for Wales
The defender has made an impact on his national side as well this season.
The past few months have been an excellent time for the Youth of Liverpool, and then Neco Williams had to go and make it even more incredible for himself. The 19-year-old made enough appearances last season that he secured his very own Premier League medal, signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, and then managed to net the match-winning goal in his home debut for Wales this Thursday.
“To be honest, I can’t really sum it up at the minute,” Williams told Sky Sports after the match. “Before the goal, we must have made about 25 passes before the goal actually went in, so the build-up to it was the main thing.”
“And to finish it off, and especially to get my first goal for my country, is just a proud moment for me and my family. It’ll be a day I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
“It’s just happened too quick, to be honest!” the right-back added. “Making my debut, then scoring my first goal for my country… obviously when you’re a kid, you always dream of playing for your country. To get the opportunity and to do what I’m doing now is just a surreal moment.
“If I keep working hard and keep showing the gaffer what I can do, then hopefully I’ll keep getting my chances and hopefully like today I’ll get some more goals.”
Sounds like a winning strategy all around. Williams will hopefully make his next appearance for Wales when they take on England on October 8.
