Official: Sheyi Ojo Joins Cardiff City on Loan
The Championship club were very keen on the winger.
The Sheyi Ojo revival that some of us have been waiting for since the player’s debut against Exeter in January 2016 will remain on hold for at least one more season as the player has joined Cardiff City on loan for the 2020-21 season.
Ojo has been on loan to various clubs since 2017 and has yet to make the kind of impact that would help him make his way back to Liverpool and onto the first team.
That said, Ojo’s most recent loan, with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, had a few more promising moments than his time at Fulham or with Ligue 1 side Reims, and Gerrard sang the winger’s praises early into the season.
“For a young player, he has plenty of experience. He has played abroad, he has played in the Premier League and the Championship. He has all the attributes, he is a great kid, and he works hard,” Gerrard said in August last year.
Ojo finished his spell with Rangers having scored 5 goals and 7 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for the club, a rather disappointing number after his excellent start.
It goes without saying that Ojo would like to see himself in a Liverpool kit again, but the club is probably still hoping for significant progress from him as a player before that can happen. The best thing for Ojo here is to continue getting as much first team time as possible, and with Cardiff City and Neil Harris, that’s all the better.
Note: shortly after the publication of this story, Ojo completed his loan move to Cardiff City. Some details have been updated to reflect that.
