Sensational Mohamed Salah: Six Incredible Stats

Mohamed Salah has been breaking records since his arrival at Liverpool in 2017, and there’s more to come.

Mohamed Salah kicked off our 2020/21 Premier League season last night with a scintillating performance that had it all – a hat-trick of two successful penalties and an unstoppable goal converted from an Andy Robertson free kick, 88 touches and a whole lot of pace. And he has put on similar performances before.

However due to some odd combination of having an international persona beyond sport and the fact that there are occasional games in which he does not – wait for it – score goals, he frequently finds himself on the receiving end of a barrage of criticism.

This criticism is, in my opinion, mostly unfair and here are some incredible statistics to prove that:

1. Salah has now scored in the opening game of every season since he joined Liverpool in 2017. [Multiple sources]
2. He has scored 52 goals in 63 Premier League home games for Liverpool. That is an astonishing 0.82 goals per game average. [Multiple sources]
3. He has the third lowest rate of minutes per goal scored or assist created (96), right behind Sergio Aguero (88) and Thierry Henry (89). [Multiple sources]
4. Salah has scored a goal or created an assist every 85 Premier League minutes for Liverpool, the highest in our history. [Simon Brundish]
5. He has averaged 0.64 goals per game in the Premier League (for Liverpool and Chelsea). This is higher than many prolific goal scorers such as Alan Shearer, Robin van Persie, Jamie Vardy, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, and Didier Drogba. 6. Salah’s hat-trick was Liverpool’s 40^th in the Premier League era, making us the club with the highest number of hat-tricks in the league, followed by Arsenal who are at 39. [Opta Joe]

Now apparently statistics do not change minds as much as we would like, or climate change denial would not be a thing. But for what it is worth, Mo’s numbers do not lie, in fact they foretell the making of a legend not only for Liverpool, but for the Premier League as well.
