The Brazilian keeper will wear a Clemence replica jersey to honor the late Liverpool legend.

When Liverpool take the Anfield pitch to warm-up before their match against Leicester City on Sunday, keeper Alisson Becker will be paying tribute to the late, great Ray Clemence. Alisson will be wearing a replica of the jersey Clemence wore when he kept a clean sheet during Liverpool’s 1981 European Cup Final victory over Real Madrid.

Clemence, who passed away from prostate cancer last week, is considered by many to be the greatest goalkeeper in the history of Liverpool FC. He helped LFC win numerous titles, and his former teammates spoke very highly of him as a player, leader, and person after hearing of his passing.

In an effort to mark the significance of the life and playing career of Clemence, Alisson will take the pitch wearing the replica jersey that was generously donated from the personal collection of Stephen Done, the curator of the LFC museum.

After the match, LFC’s current squad will all sign the jersey, which will then be auctioned off, and the proceeds from the auction will be donated to Prostate Cancer UK.

This is an excellent way to honour the memory of a legendary player, and it’s truly heartwarming to see the players, Alisson especially, embrace the club’s storied history as they pay tribute to one of the men who contributed so much to LFC throughout his life. That they will also be helping to raise money for a charity dedicated to ending the disease that claimed Clemence’s life is a wonderful gesture.

Bravo to the club, to Alisson, and to Stephen Done for planning what will surely be an emotional, touching tribute. YNWA Ray.
