Andy Robertson Ready to Play Center-Back If Needed

The Liverpool left-back should be fit to play tomorrow, and is willing to contribute in whatever way is asked of him.

In some rare good news, it looks like Andy Robertson has overcome the hamstring issues that plagued him during the international break. He missed one of Scotland’s international fixtures due to a tightness issue with his hamstring, but returned to play in their last game against Israel.

“Now I’m ready to go for Sunday, I feel fully fit, I feel ready. I know some people were quite concerned but I suppose with the amount of injuries we’ve had, people have become used to it. But I’m fully fit and ready to go”, he said in an interview, that will reassure Liverpool fans.

This makes Robertson the only player in Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice backline to be fit to play at the moment, with Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander Arnold and Joe Gomez all sidelined by injuries.

Given the ongoing center-back crisis, it seems that the idea has been floated to have Robertson deputize in that role if absolutely needed. His response to that is devoid of hesitation. “I don’t think I’ve done it before but if the manager thinks that’s an option, then I’ll play it and do it to the best of my ability”, he said.

“Whatever the manager asks of me, I’ll do it. Look, if that becomes an option or that becomes the case, like I said, I’ll do it to the best of my ability and I’ll try my best, like I do in any other position.

“The center-backs have been hit hard – Joey and Virg long-term injuries, which is devastating, and Fab on his way back and things like that. Look, we’ve still got options there. If I’m one of them, so be it.

“All the lads here, we can all adapt to different positions and do our best in those positions.

“We might need to do that more this season because we’ve been hit with quite a few injuries and there’s no saying that there might be more to come. But hopefully everyone now is fit and we’re only adding to the squad instead of taking away.

“Hopefully there’s a couple that are pretty close and hopefully in a couple of weeks our squad will be back to being a really strong one.”

We love his willingness and enthusiasm, but also hope that he can continue his marauding runs down the left-wing as per usual, and does not have to fill in anywhere else, for now.
