Anfield To Serve As COVID-19 Testing Site

Liverpool FC backs citywide mass testing initiative.
Liverpool Football Club is supporting a city-wide mass-testing initiative run by the city of Liverpool. The initiative will launch on Friday.
In a video message, Jurgen Klopp addressed fans urging them to get tested as a part of the rollout of the city-wide testing pilot. “Regular testing has kept the Premier League going and has allowed us to be on the pitch every week”, Klopp said. He has been supported in spreading this message by Vicky Jepson, Liverpool FC Women manager, and the men’s and women’s first-team players.

Anfield will be used as a screening venue for the scheme. While the whole city is being asked to get tested, “there is specific emphasis in asking health and care workers, other emergency services and key workers, school staff and pupils, university staff and students to come forward”, says the club website. The test results will be collected by the National Health Service and published as apart of the daily case numbers, including how many positive cases are detected with this new method of testing.
For the club itself, three men’s first-team players - Kostas Tsimikas, Sadio Mane, and Thiago Alcantara - tested positive and recovered from COVID-19, while Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri were suspected to have tested positive, but were not affected.
