Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Close To Liverpool Return
His return would ease the burden on an injury-stricken side.
The positive injury news continues this week for Jürgen Klopp. This time, it’s midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has returned to full training at the AXA Training Centre.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the first players to get struck down with injury this season. He hurt his knee during pre-season preparations and hasn’t featured at all for the Reds. Unfortunately, a cameo against Danish side Midtjylland on Wednesday is probably a bit too soon. With Liverpool already through to the round of 16 after their victory over Ajax last week, it would have been a good time to for Oxlade-Chamberlain to get some minutes in.
However, Klopp alluded to the idea that he could feature in the Sunday match against Fulham instead.
With James Milner and Thiago both still out for Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return will lighten the burden on an overworked midfield struggling through a very heavy fixture schedule.
When he’s fit, something that has sadly hasn’t happened nearly often enough in his time at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain slots perfectly into Klopp’s aggressive, quick and efficient midfield. As we run headlong into the festive period, having him there as a choice for Klopp will be a huge boon for the team.
