The talented young midfielder says he still has work to do before calling himself an established Liverpool player.

Over the past month, 19-year-old midfielder Curtis Jones has made himself a regular in the starting eleven for Jürgen Klopp’s defending league champion Reds. The youngster says he isn’t an established player, though—not yet.

“I still wouldn’t really say that I’m an established first-team player,” Jones told the club’s official website. “People like Mo, Sadio, Hendo—they’re the ones that I would count as established players. For someone like me, I’m gaining experience.

“There’s been a few injuries around so I’ve been called upon and I’ve took my chance well. But players are coming back now so I just have to keep performing well and keep giving the gaffer and the staff something to think about.”

With players like James Milner and Thiago Alcantara nearing a return to action, minutes do seem likely to be harder to come by in the coming weeks. There will be plenty of games, though—enough that Jones should still see the pitch.

And whatever the second half of the 2020-21 season brings, Jones says he’s up for the challenge—and ready to learn and bounce back when things don’t go his way, as was the case against West Bromwich Albion on the weekend.

“I’ve had a good run of games,” he added. “I think in the last game I gave a little bit of a mistake away, but I like to take risks. Maybe I took one in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I’m I’m learning and I took it on the chin. I’ll bounce back.

“But as a team, we’ve a had a good run of games, we’re top of the league. So hopefully we can finish 2020, which has been a bit of a mad year, on a good run.”
