Diogo Jota Set To Miss Two Months After Knee Injury
This comes as a major blow to the Reds.
Live your life like Eeyore. If you always assume the worst, then anything better than that will feel like a gift.
What we were told was a ‘knock’ potentially keeping Diogo Jota out of the game against Fulham has been revealed to be much worse. Earlier today, Liverpool sources confirmed that Jota sustained a knee injury that would be reassessed after the Fulham game.
Now, though, reports in Jota’s home country of Portugal have come out and said that the player may be set to miss the next two months. This would obviously be a huge blow for the club. Their injury problems this season are well-documented, so any player going down during the festive period would be frustrating. However, in addition to that, Jota has also been one of Liverpool’s best players this season.
He’s begun to slowly carve a place for himself in the starting lineup, which is a very touch ask when his competition is Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, and when that trio has combined to be the best attacking threat in Europe for nearly four seasons now.
The club hasn’t yet confirmed the news, so there’s some small hope that the situation has been overblown.
If the whispers are true, though, then Jota is set to miss 11 league games, including two against Spurs and one against each of the Manchester clubs, not to mention the Champions League round of 16 and the next stage of the FA Cup.
As we stare at the growing list of the injured, several of whom have no return in sight, I’m reminded again of my buddy Eeyore, who once said: “Days. Weeks. Months. Who knows?”
