Which Reds players made the cut?

It’s the end of December, which means makes it prime time for everyone to start putting together their best/worst of the year lists. Concentrating on anything other than COVID-19 when we look back on 2020 seems pretty unnecessary, but the world is slowly started turning again.

On Sky’s Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville put together their Premier League team of the year. It should come to no surprise that several Liverpool players made the cut. It’s even less of a surprise that nearly their entire defense was included.

Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andy Robertson were the four consistent players in Liverpool’s league winning defense last season. Not even missing the last third of the year could remove van Dijk from the running. The center-back was far and away the best in the world at his position during this year.

It gets thinner for the Reds in the midfield, with only Player of the Year Jordan Henderson making the cut. Up front, the MNF duo chose only Mohamed Salah out of the Liverpool front three.

Sadio Mane was passed up in favor of Tottenham’s Son Heung-min who, in fairness, also have a very good year.

Have you put together your Premier League team of the year? What if you’re limited to only six Reds players, like Carra and Neville? Who gets left off the list?
