How to talk about a team capable of a performance like today? Liverpool blew Crystal Palace away 7-0 in their largest ever Premier League away win to tear open a six-point lead at the top of the table after starting the week in second place.
2020 has thrown every obstacle within reaching distance at Jürgen Klopp’s mentality monsters, from an ungodly plague of injuries to VAR doing its well best to derail their title defense. And yet, Liverpool are still standing, top of the league at Christmas.
Jordan Henderson lauded his team’s performance after the game:
“We were ruthless today,” the skipper told BT Sports at full time.
“We took our chances, dominated the game for large periods. We were a little bit sloppy at times but delighted with the performance and result.
“It was coming, over the last few games we’ve had some chances and not taken them and it has cost us at times.
“Today we managed to finish our chances, which is always important in football.”

The English international put in a man of the match showing, scoring a first-time wonder goal to put his side 4-0 up and covering every blade of grass in a truly captain’s performance.
The Londoners would’ve felt hard done by in the first half, spurning a number of opportunities and putting the champions under pressure for much of the opening period only to be down 3-0 down at halftime through brilliant strikes from Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino.
Henderson highlighted that touchy period as an area of concern, providing insight into the hunger and relentless drive for improvement that has characterized this incredible team.
“In some ways but we don’t just look at the score line. I thought we were very good midweek and again today, so we just need to keep the momentum going and work hard,” the 30-year-old continued.
“In the first half they had one or two half chances - a little on the counter-attack. They are always going to create something, but we limited that today. We managed the game well in the second half.
“Overall, the performance level, we have to be happy. Now we have a week leading to the next game. Then another tough test again.”
A blockbuster week of football has seen them knock fellow challengers, Tottenham from the top of the table before now dismantling what had formerly been a bogey side not even three days later.
The season isn’t over but as this strangest of years draws to a close, the Reds can know that they are putting their best foot forward and going out strong. The rest of the league best take notice.
