Jürgen Klopp Plays Down Premier League Title “Chase”

It’s just about winning what’s in front of you.

Liverpool won the Premier League title at a canter last season. It was all but done before the restart.

This year will not be so straightforward.

The Reds are currently in third place, with a point between themselves, Tottenham and Chelsea. Man City are in the rear view mirror. Everyone seems to have problems this time around.

Jürgen Klopp isn’t thinking too much about that. The correct view, I have no doubt, is to concentrate on winning the football matches in front of you and see where it goes.

“I don’t feel that we are chasing anyone at the moment or somebody is chasing us,” the Liverpool manager told the Liverpool Echo.

“I see Tottenham are doing pretty well. Chelsea is for me at the moment looking like the favourite with a bigger squad and after a bit of a rusty start are now fully in. They have unbelievable opportunities to change the team from one game to another.

“We watch them but we aren’t chasing them. We play them when we play them. That’s how we saw it last season as well.

“The pressure is there but it’s about yourself, how much you think of that. The pressure is there to win a game.

“Our pressure is we want to win against Wolves, but we’re only playing against Wolves and nobody else.

“It’s much too early to think about who is ahead of who.

“It’s just a situation this season, it’s not about setting a target and going for it.

“It’s about getting through it with the best possible football you can play and that’s what we try to do.

“It differs from midweek to weekend at times because of some circumstances.

“But the target for us is always to be fully focused on the next game and the next opponent and don’t think, especially not this early in the season, about other results.”
