Liverpool Announcing Signing of New Head of Recovery and Performance
A new role has been created at the club for Dr Andreas Schlumberger, who arrives from Schalke 04.
With Liverpool slogging their way through what has been the most congested season in memory and struggling with the increase in injuries that inevitably come from that, today brings with it news that will hopefully help to make the situation more manageable.
That’s because the club have announced a new signing, not of a player to reinforce the defence but of former Schalke 04 head of fitness Dr Andreas Schlumberger, who will be joining the club in a newly formed specialist role focusing on recovery and performance.
He joins the Liverpool fitness team headed by Andreas Kornmayer after having spent the past year with the Bundesliga club and having previously been a rehabilitation coach for four years at Borussia Dortmund during the time Jürgen Klopp was in charge there.
Schlumberger also previously worked as a fitness coach at Borussia Monchengladbach, FC Nurnberg, and with the German national team’s youth levels—which makes his move to join Klopp at Liverpool today the doctor’s first major appointment outside of Germany.
