Club captain Jordan Henderson is looking to push on in the face of a difficult fixture list and ongoing injury crisis.

The past few weeks have been rather difficult for Liverpool between the club’s ongoing injury crisis as well as some dropped points in England and Europe. At the end of the day, though, a look at the table can bring with it some comfort.

Despite a perception of struggle and no little talk of doom and gloom, they’re level on points top of the league and top of their Champions League group. Now, says captain Jordan Henderson, it’s time to buckle down and push on.

“It’s one thing having a decent autumn, but only if you push on through winter,” he said ahead of Tuesday’s match against Ajax. “When the games come thicker and faster than ever—do you have a chance of making the most of spring.

“A lot has been said about the schedule and, without wanting to reopen the debate, it’s fair to say that this season’s is tougher than ever. But it is what it is and our job as players is to try to clear every obstacle that is placed in our way.

“No-one is going to do us any favours and we’re not looking for any, so the best thing that we can do is stick to our mantra of taking one game at a time and being as competitive as we can be no matter who our opponents might be.”

Winning tonight against Ajax will be difficult, with the Reds playing their fourth game in ten days and many legs looking tired on the weekend when they dropped points at Brighton, but if they can win it would make things a little easier.

It would guarantee a place in the knockout rounds and allow them to take it easier in their final group game against FC Midtjylland next week while turning their focus fully to the league—where they don’t have to play until Sunday.
